Becoming Attorney Cofield | Faith, Family & My Journey
There are moments in life when the noise gets so loud that you can barely hear yourself think.
And I’m not just talking about the noise around us. I’m talking about the noise of responsibilities, expectations, opinions, worries, and that never-ending list of things that need our attention.
Some days, it feels like everybody needs something from you. There are phone calls to answer, decisions to make, people to care for, and responsibilities that don’t stop just because you’re tired.
And somewhere in the middle of all that noise, you’re still trying to hold on to your own dreams.
I’m learning that just because everything is calling for my attention doesn’t mean everything deserves my energy.
This season of my life has stretched me in ways I never imagined. Between caregiving, everyday responsibilities, studying for the LSAT, and pursuing my dream of becoming an attorney, there are days when I wonder how I’m going to get it all done.
And then there’s the noise that comes from within.
Am I doing enough? Am I moving fast enough? Am I too late? What if things don’t work out the way I planned?
Sometimes, we become our own loudest critics.
But here’s what I’m learning: The loudest voice isn’t always the one speaking the truth.
Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I’m allowed to slow down. I’m allowed to step away. I’m allowed to protect my peace without feeling guilty about it.
And most importantly, I’m allowed to trust God even when I can’t see how everything is going to come together.
Psalm 46:10 reminds us:
“Be still, and know that I am God.”
Those words hit differently when life feels overwhelming.
Being still doesn’t mean I’m giving up. It doesn’t mean I’ve stopped caring or that my dreams are no longer important.
It means I’m learning that I don’t have to carry everything, fix everything, or figure everything out today.
Some things require my attention. Other things require my prayers. And some things simply require me to let go.
I’m also learning that peace doesn’t always come when the circumstances change. Sometimes, peace comes when I change how I respond to those circumstances.
I can love my family and still need time for myself.
I can be committed to my responsibilities and still set boundaries.
I can pursue my dream of becoming an attorney without having every step figured out.
And I can have a difficult day without calling it a defeated day.
This journey isn’t just about getting into law school or earning a law degree. It’s also about becoming a woman who understands her worth, honors her limits, trusts her faith, and refuses to lose herself along the way.
So when the noise gets loud, I’m learning to turn down the volume on everything that steals my peace.
To pray a little longer.
To worry a little less.
To give myself grace.
To remember why I started.
And to trust that the dreams God placed in my heart are still worth pursuing, even during the loudest seasons of my life.
Because sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is get quiet enough to hear God reminding us that we’re still on the right path.
And if you’re in a season where the noise feels louder than your peace, I hope you’ll remember this:
You don’t have to answer every call, meet every expectation, or carry every burden.
Sometimes, choosing peace is the most important thing you’ll accomplish all day.
I’m still becoming. Still learning. Still growing. And still believing.
One day, one prayer, and one step at a time.
Let’s Talk: Have you ever been in a season when life became so loud that you needed to step away and reconnect with yourself? How do you find your peace when everything around you feels overwhelming?
